Davao Oro Peace Group heads meet for 'New Normal' Plans

NEW BATAAN, DDO - Following the health and safety protocols of Government in implementing small gatherings, the Provincial Officers and Municipal Presidents of the different Chapters of Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) Davao de Oro braved the COVID-19 threat to meet for their Mid-year Conference on July 19, 2020, at the Kabalikat Hall of 66th Infantry Battalion here.

Guided by the Municipal Health Office (MHO) of New Bataan and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the said conference highlighted the planning of new activities to continue the organization's cause for the youth and communities during the pandemic while also adhering to the "New Normal."

Bernadette M. Festin, President of YFPM Davao de Oro said that the planning was relevant in the current situation as they need to mobilize and extend help to those in need, with the assurance of not compromising the health of their volunteers.

"Conflicts in vulnerable communities in which the youth are most affected are still present despite the pandemic. This is why we need to continue our advocacy by serving as Youth for Peace with the addition of a new role as Youth for Bio-Safety," she said.

Despite the postponement of some of the organization's activities, Festin also assured that their organization will be resilient and that all relevant activities will be implemented or improved in compliance with the health and safety protocols.

"The year 2020 seemed to pause but as Peace Champions, our advocacy will not," President of YFPM Davao de Oro expressed.

Aside from the planning, the officers also held a Courtesy Call with Lt. Col. Roman S. Mabborang, the Commander of 66th Infantry Battalion, where he discussed the partnership of his unit and the YFPM Chapters in his area of responsibility.

Meanwhile, other topics during Mid-Year Conference also included reporting of the accomplishments of the Municipal Chapters, revision of YFPM Davao de Oro's Constitution and By-Laws, the introduction of the organization's new Online Systems, and other matters.
