DepEd Comval OKs In-School Peace Symposium Drive

NABUNTURAN, CVP – An event to involve the student leaders in Compostela Valley on peace-building and apprise them about violent extremism has been approved by the DepEd Comval to be implemented to all Secondary Schools in the province.

The Campus Peace Symposium, a peace-building event that aims to be conducted for the students in Compostela Valley was first proposed by the Youth for Peace Movement Comval (YFPMCV), led by Mr. Alexis Micutuan to the newly elected provincial president of Supreme Student Government of Compostela Valley (SSG Comval), Mr. Erol Elle Ceniza Jr.

The proposal was immediately adopted by Mr. Ceniza as he was also a member of YFPMCV and a committed young peace advocate.

“I saw the need to conduct activities such as Peace Symposiums in our schools as this would help the student sector of Comval be aware of violent extremism and its threats to the youth. More so, it will also encourage them to help in our building peace efforts for the province,” he said.

The proposal was then presented by Mr. Ceniza to the newly elected SSG Comval Provincial Federation Officers on July 17, 2017, during their oath-taking ceremony and planning for the school year 2017-2018. It was also presented afterward by the officers to the Schools Division Superintendent of Comval, Dr. Reynante L. Solitario, thereby giving his approval to conduct the activity.

The CPS is now a partnership activity of YFPM Comval and SSG of Comval and will be implemented after further consultations and gathering of support from other stakeholders.

“Our next step is to have coordination meetings with different stakeholders like AFP and the PLGU of Comval to consult for the module and gain support,” Mr. Micutuan said.
