MACO, CVP - A new dimension of advocating peace has been established by the Youth for Peace Movement Comval (YFPMCV) yesterday, September 16, 2017, after conducting its 1st Peace Communicators Training at the headquarters of 1001st "Pag-asa" Brigade, Maco, Compostela Valley Province.

According to Mr. Bren Cabatingan of YFPMCV who spearheaded the event, the Peace Communicators Training has long been a dream of the organization to be conducted as they have seen that peace communication is relevant to peacebuilding.

"With the advent of social media, we have to use this an avenue to share real-time stories of our activities and encourage other youth within and beyond our province to participate in the attainment of peace in their community," Cabatingan added.

He also said that the 1st batch of Peace Communicators, with 14 participants coming from different municipal chapters of YFPMCV attended in the 1-day training to contribute to the promotion of peace all-over the province.

It covered lectures in News and Feature Writing through the Trainor Ms. Rhealyn Pojas, former Justice Beat Reporter and Editor of Sun.Star Davao.

After the lectures, Ms. Pojas tested the capability of the participants in writing by engaging them in a Mock Press Conference.

"This activity will let them experience first hand how to ask questions and gather data in order to write a good story," she said.

The training was part of the goals of YFPMCV to equip the peace volunteers with basic skills in journalism and strengthen their sharing of information on social media.
