Sectoral Groups, Youth Leaders March to Call for Peace

TAGUM CITY, DDN - Under the dazzling heat of the sun, about a thousand members of various sectoral groups, lumads, civic organizations, Philippine Army troops, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, former rebels, young peace advocates, and government institutions from the provinces of Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte marched together to show their support and commitment to attain lasting peace in Mindanao last March 27, 2018, through the "Martsa Para sa Kalinaw."

With the theme “Makighi-usa, Kalinaw Isulong!,” the activity aims to promote peace, solidarity, cohesiveness and mutual respect among all peace-loving advocates and to increase the level of awareness of the general public that armed struggle has no place in a peace-loving nation.

"Let us not only give the responsibility of forwarding the peace to our soldiers and police, because we also have a big obligation to it as Filipinos," said Hon. Geterito T. Gementiza, Tagum City Vice Mayor during his welcome remarks.

"As one race, one nation, all of us must work hand-in-hand to attain peace and harmony," he added.
The rally has started at the different areas of Tagum City and ended at the Rotary Park where a Program followed to allow the representatives of each sector to share their message. Some have also encouraged those who are still at the arms of lawlessness to abandon the armed struggle.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Compostela Valley, Hon. Jayvee Tyron Uy has commended the initiative of the different sectors, who have long been dreaming of living in peace, for conducting the activity and airing out their message through wearing of white shirt and bringing their placards and banners with written statements. Some were also shouting and chanting their message.

"Before, peace was too easy to say but hard to attain. Now, we already have different opportunities and chances to attain it," said Gov. Uy.

The youth who are present during the rally has also played a commendable role in the activity.
During the Program, the members of Youth for Peace Movement Compostela Valley (YFPM Comval) led the symbolic mass dancing of "Kilos Kabataan" which was followed by all the attendees to encourage other youth to be proactive as it is already their time to help the country.

On a Facebook message of Mr. Bren Cabatingan, the President of YFPM Comval, he encouraged his members to join the activity as they are part of the fundamental sectors in the society who must always respond to the call of those who are in need.

"It is our right and responsibility to take part in the resolution of problems since these do not only affect the elders but the youth as well," he added.

In totality, 70 members of YFPM Comval joined the rally to represent the whole youth sector.
Aside from Tagum, several Peace Rallies were also conducted simultaneously in key cities all-over Eastern Mindanao where different sectoral groups have also participated for the same cause.
