Maco LGU, Youth Volunteers unite for Earth Day



MACO, CVP - A hundred volunteers from the different government agencies and youth sectors of Maco came together to show their support and commitment to save the environment, by participating in the simultaneous Tree Parenting activity held last April 20, 2018, at Brgy. San Juan here.

Led by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, the said event was conducted in celebration of the National Earth Day with the theme: "Green the Municipalities, Green the Oceans," which aims to plant more trees and mangroves in every municipality in the whole country to counter the global warming.

The annual commemoration was also attended by the personnel of DENR CENRO, LGU Employees of Maco, Barangay Officials, San Juan Elementary School Teachers, SPES Grantees, and the Seven Youth Organizations and Sectors including the Youth for Peace Movement of Maco.

Meanwhile, Engr. Alan M. Olaguer, the Maco MENRO Officer reminded the volunteers about the importance of the "National Earth Day." He also emphasized the factors that people should improve to fight global warming such as water quality, air quality, and solid-waste management.

"This activity will somehow remind each individual about the importance of saving the environment and preserving the marine life," Engr. Olaguer said.

Before the tree planting, the participants have also conducted a coastal clean-up along the planting area.

Celso B. Lorica, MYDC Chairperson leads the youths on the said activity. He emphasized things that youth can do to save the environment.

"I am hoping that this activity would encourage you to take the responsibility of saving the environment and be more responsive to the needs of the fast-changing environment," Lorica added.
