More than 90 participants who are mostly composed of Sangguniang Kabataan members and sectoral leaders graduated in the camp that happened last July 20-22, 2018.
With the theme "PAKIGLAMBIGIT SA KABATAN-UNAN: Enrooting Peacebuilding for and Empowered and Participative Youth in the Grassroots", the Youth Peace Camp aims to instill values and knowledge to the participants and transform them as empowered peacebuilders in their respective communities. It was also conducted to invite new YFP volunteers.
During the 3-day event, the participants engaged in lectures and teambuilding activities under the camp's modules of Awakening, Nurturing and Empowering. Some of the topics that were catered to the participants are about their role in the local peace talks, preventing insurgency and drug proliferation; advocating Gender and Development and Cultural Identity, and on the importance of having and valuing an organization.
They were also able to showcase their skills and talents through the Academic Competitions and Kultura Night. On the final day, the participants were even challenged when they engaged in the Hunt for Breakfast - an eight-obstacle course that will test the physical, emotional, and problem-solving ability of the youth.
Meanwhile, in his message, the President of Youth for Peace Movement Comval, Mr. Bren Cabatingan emphasized the responsibility of the youth in their communities.
"Just like being a responsible member of our family, being proactive in our communities should not be an option. Do we have the choice to select our own family? We do not. We were put by God there because of a purpose. And as a representation of a larger family, we were born in our Purok, Barangay, Municipality, Province, and Country because of the same reason. Be responsible," he said.
