Comval Peacebuilders trained to promote Peace through Journalism

TAGUM CITY, DDN - Another training that aims to develop the skills of the young peace advocates of Comval on promoting peace and youth empowerment was conducted by the Youth for Peace Movement Compostela Valley (YFPM Comval) on December 10 -11, 2018, at the Big 8 Hotel here.

The 2-day Basic Peace Communicators Training was accordingly conducted as part of the organization's Peacebuilders Training Program, which aims to empower the members of the organization into genuine peacebuilders by using their different skills and talents in the promotion of peace.

"With the advent of communication as a tool to inform everyone and promote anything, we took this as an opportunity to advance our cause in empowering the youth and promoting peace by encouraging and developing our members who have skill sets in writing, photography, and even social media engagements to become effective peace communicators," YFPM Comval President Mr. Bren Cabatingan said.

The training was participated by a total of 40 members and aspirants of the youth organization's Peace Communication Track and members of the Youth for Peace Movement Tagumpay.

Some of the lectures and workshops catered to the participants were on Understanding Journalism and the Role of Media in Peacebuilding, Social Media Management, and Basic News Writing discussed by Mr. Michael Uy of the Philippine Information Agency XI; Basic Feature Writing by Ms. Sann Sheilds Sabio, former Editor-in-Chief of USeP Tagum's The Light Student Publication; and Basic Photojournalism by Mr. Dwight Jehan Patao, former Senior Photojournalist of the The Light Publication.
