Mabini Youth Celebrates Ocean Month with Mangrove Forest Clean-up

MABINI, CVP - The Youth for Peace Movement Mabini (YFPM) Mabini and the Sangguniang Kabataan Mabini have once again shown their support for a clean ocean by conducting its regular environmental program called "Kalinaw para sa Kinaiyahan" or KPSK, which was already done twice this year.

The environmental awareness program that was conducted at a Mangrove Forest in Purok A-2 Barangay Pindasan, Mabini here on May 5, 2019, was part of both youth organizations' celebration of the Ocean Month that is being commemorated every May.

The program was plotted with a lecture on Republic Act 9003, or also known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2003, which was discussed by Ms. Joan Pilo, the President of Compostela Valley Scholarship Program (CVSP) Mabini and a staff from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Mabini to the attendees.

"Dapat kita nga mga batan-on maging advocate ta ug mahimong responsable sa atong mga basura kay ang atoang mga corals ug marine mammals ang mahimong luoy," Pilo said.

The lecture was immediately followed by the coastal clean-up along the coastline of Purok A-4, Pindasan.

Aside from the YFPM Mabini headed by Ms. Cristy Fannie Bonotan, and the Sangguniang Kabataan of Pindasan headed by Hon. Jeanette May Araula, the second KPSK was also in partnership with the 71st Infantry Battalion headed by Ltc Esteveyn Ducusin, Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), MENRO, MDRRMC, all from Mabini, which gathered at least 37 volunteers coming from all the participating organizations
