PANTUKAN, CVP - Various youth leaders in three barangays here, which are identified as Conflict-Affected Areas because of the New Peoples Army's (NPA) influence, were gathered in a 3-day Youth Peace Camp on October 11-13, 2019, to be empowered, show their support to the government, and awaken them on the NPA's youth recruitment.
The Barangay Youth Peace Camp composed of Barangays Araibo, Las Arenas, and Tagugpo of Pantukan is the first peace camp conducted at a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA) in Comval.
It was attended by 121 youth in the said areas and was held at the Araibo Elementary School.
Some of the lectures presented during the camp were on the Role of the Youth in Preventing Insurgency, Preventing Substance Abuse, the Youth in Volunteerism, and Peace-building.
The participants were also able to compete in various team-building activities which challenged their leadership ability and instilled different values to help them become a peace-advocating leader.
The Barangay YPC in Pantukan's GIDA was realized through the Oplan Pagbabago of the Province of Compostela Valley, a localized version of the Peace Framework under the Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC), with the covergence of the Provincial Local Government Unit (LGU) of Comval, LGU Pantukan, 66th Infantry Battalion, Pantukan Municipal Police Station, Philippine Information Agency, Sangguniang Kabataan, and Youth for Peace Movement Comval.
