Joint SK-YFPM Seeks to End Insurgency in Davao Oro

DAVAO CITY - The Sangguniang Kabataan Provincial Federation (SKPF) of Davao de Oro and Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) are now on junction with the whole-of-nation approach of ending local communist armed conflict (ELCAC), as they pledged to support the Task Force ELCAC and Davao de Oro Government's implementation of the Executive Order (EO) 70.

In a joint Seminar-Workshop on EO 70 and Reetooled Community Support Program (RCSP) on February 13-15, 2020, at the Lanang Suites here, both youth organizations underscored their issues and concerns on the presence of Communist insurgency and the impact that it has incurred to the people and economic condition of the Province.

The seminar, through the initiative of the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro, was participated by the SK Municipal Federation Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Secretary, and the YFPM Davao de Oro Provincial and Municipal Presidents.

The youth leaders also noted the rampant recruitment of the CPP-NPA-NDF, mostly among the vulnerable youth such as the out-of-school and Indigenous Peoples.

To resolve this, both organizations identified mechanisms and key activities that they could jointly implement with the TF ELCAC, to address the most pressing issues and the root-causes of conflict involving the youth sector, especially in identified geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).

One of the notable parts of the plan was the crafting of a module that will serve as guidelines for the proper and effective implementation of youth awareness activities such as community symposiums.

Meanwhile, the President of YFPM Davao de Oro, Ms. Bernadette M. Festin expressed her excitement for the convergence of SK and YFPM as she hopes that it would also empower more youth leaders in the province.

"Seeing the youth leaders of Davao de Oro work together made the plans more promising. We are hoping that this convergence will create greater impact in helping the youth, not only to protect them from insurgency but also to empower them so they too could help us in this campaign," she said.
