NEW BATAAN, DDO - The will of the heart against all odds was displayed by the volunteers of Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) here as they assisted in the feeding program of the Provincial Government called Mobile Kitchen, for the benefit of the children of San Antonio Village NHA, Brgy. Maparat, Compostela, Davao de Oro on May 4, 2020.
The implemented program was made possible through the collaboration of the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Department of Education (DepEd), and LGU of Compostela, and YFPM New Bataan volunteers who responded to the call despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, the Mobile Kitchen, which is under the Kusina ng Kalinga Program of PLGU Davao de Oro, aims to promote feeding the children with healthy and nutritious food, especially in this time of crisis.
Since it's implementation, the feeding drive has already benefitted almost 3,000 children, including those of the San Antonio Village and other NHA and GK Villages, and targets to feed 11,000 more.
According to the Davao de Oro Provincial Information Office, some of the groups and individuals who supported this initiative are the Davao Multipurpose Seed Producer Cooperative (DAMSEPCO), which donated 23 sacks of rice, the staff of the Provincial Governor's Office who donated some amount of fund from their own pocket, and Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy himself who allocated his salary.
In a statement made by Governor Uy, he expressed to continue the program in different settlement areas in the Province such as the NHA and GK villages, which has an enormous need for nutritious food in these times.
"Dakong kalipay namo nga makita ang mga pahiyum sa atong mga kabatan-onan nga nagpuyo sa resettlement area. Sobra 14,000 ang atoang target nga mga kabataan nga atong mapakaon, ug dili ta muundang hangtod sa masiguro nato nga makakaon ug tarong ang tanang kabataan sa atong probinsiya," the Governor added.
Meanwhile, Ronnie Riños, the President of YFPM New Bataan, expressed his gratitude to the people behind the feeding drive as it will greatly help end hunger among children from poor families, which is also one of the reasons that hinder peace in depressed communities.
"The Youth for Peace Movement New Bataan is grateful for those people who are behind this program, especially to the Provincial Government led by Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy who did not fail in helping the youth of this Province. You can trust that the organization will continuously support, especially in programs that will advocate peace and address the root causes of conflict," he added.
